Purple in Action: Celebrating Different Perspectives

Purple in Action: Celebrating Different Perspectives

Autism Month is an opportunity to recognise the many ways people think and experience the world.

This year, Autism SA is encouraging people across South Australia to take part in Purple in Action, a campaign focused on curiosity, understanding and inclusion.

For autistic adults, differences in perspective can often shape how we experience environments, relationships and workplaces.

Creating more inclusive communities starts with recognising those differences and celebrating neurodiversity.

How You Can Take Part

1. 30 Days of Curiosity Challenge

The 30 Days of Curiosity Challenge encourages people to notice something interesting or unexpected each day during April.

This could be:

• a pattern or sound in your environment
• something interesting you observe during your day
• a detail you may not normally notice

Participants are invited to share their observations using #PurpleInAction.

This activity encourages reflection on how people experience the world in different ways.

2. Purple Lunch Conversations

Workplaces and community groups are also hosting Purple Lunches — short sessions designed to explore different perspectives and ways of thinking.

These conversations can help create workplaces and communities that better understand and support neurodiversity.

Why These Conversations Matter

Autistic adults often experience environments differently — from sensory experiences to communication styles.

When communities are curious about those differences, they are better able to create environments where autistic people feel comfortable, supported and included.

Curiosity is one small step toward greater understanding, appreciation and celebration.
