What is neurodiversity?

The term ‘neurodiversity’ was coined by Australian sociologist Judy Singer in 1998, paralleling the term ‘biodiversity.’ The idea is that society benefit from having a range of different neurotypes — people with different types of brain wiring, including neurotypicals, autistics, those with ADD (attention deficient disorder), dyslexia, OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder), and so on — since each neurotype offers a different perspective.
